Day 1 | Welcome to Mexico City!

¡Bienvenidos a México! Upon arriving at Mexico City's International Airport, your private transportation will take you to your charming hotel. Settle in, relax and unwind before embarking on a journey full of unique activities.

Day 2 | Historic Center of Mexico City Tour with Street Food Tasting

Your private transportation will pick you up to take you to the Historic Center of Mexico City, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. At the meeting point, your local guide will be waiting for you to start a walking tour of approximately 4 hours through the streets of the Aztec capital. During this experience, you will learn about the history and gastronomy of Mexico while visiting the most emblematic places of the historic center, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the ruins of the ancient Aztec city, the Palace of Fine Arts and the Postal Palace. Additionally, you will also make a few stops at local food stalls and restaurants that only your guide knows and taste traditional Mexican food including tacos and dessert. You will understand why Mexican gastronomy is considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Community and at the end of the experience, your transportation will take you back to your accommodation.

Day 3 | Free day in Mexico City

Enjoy a day all to yourself in this great city. We recommend visiting the cafes of Coyoacán or the famous Roma neighborhood. Alternatively, you can explore Chapultepec Forest for a more flexible plan.

Day 4 | Bike through Teotihuacán, “The city of the Gods”

Prepare yourself for a visit to the remarkable archaeological site of Teotihuacán. Early in the morning, your private transportation will take you from Mexico City to the Teotihuacán Valley, where a guide will lead you through the "City of the Gods." You'll explore the "Calzada de Los Muertos," the Temple of the Feathered Serpent and the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. The tour continues with a 10 km bicycle ride along the Route of the Murals, through an ancient natural observatory, and offers stunning views of Teotihuacán. You'll also visit a local workshop to taste products made from tuna, nopal, and xoconostle, and learn about obsidian craftsmanship. The day ends with a local lunch before heading to the historic city of Puebla, approximately 2 hours away. At the end of your tour, you will enjoy a local lunch and head to your next destination: the historic city of Querétaro (approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes from Teotihuacán)

Day 5 | Transfer from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende

Your private transport will take you from Querétaro to the charming city of San Miguel de Allende, formerly known as San Miguel el Grande. The name was changed to honor the independence hero Ignacio Allende, a leader of the movement.

For the wine enthusiasts out there, you can also treat yourself to a delightful detour to the exquisite Cuna de Tierra vineyards along your journey.

Day 6 | Wine tasting in San miguel de allende

You will be privately transported to a picturesque vineyard where you'll enjoy a delightful tasting of Mexican wines, perfectly paired with a selection of cheeses and charcuterie. In addition to sampling some of the finest local wines, you'll learn about the vineyard's rich history and the intricate art of winemaking. This unforgettable experience invites you to sit back, relax and savor every moment.

Day 7 | Historic urban walk in Guanajuato

Your private transportation will take you from San Miguel de Allende so that you can immerse in the historic center of Guanajuato, a city steeped in the rich tapestry of Mexico's Independence history and renowned for its cultural charm and vibrant colors. Over the course of two and a half hours, wander through its picturesque neighborhoods, marveling at the unique architecture of houses, temples, and buildings while gaining insights into its fascinating past. Explore the maze-like alleys that lead to hidden esplanades and iconic landmarks like the famous Kissing Alley, and soak in captivating views from the city's rooftops and terraces. You can also take a street food tour available in the city. This immersive experience promises to showcase Guanajuato's historic treasures and panoramic vistas, leaving you enchanted by its beauty and allure.

Day 8 | Trekking Through the Santa Rosa Sierra

Discover the outskirts of Guanajuato through a unique walking tour along the trails of the Sierra de Santa Rosa, offering a profound connection to nature and an opportunity to encounter a diverse array of local flora and fauna. We'll start by meeting at your hotel before driving approximately twenty minutes to the trailhead. Over the course of five to six kilometers with moderate difficulty, guided by a knowledgeable local, you'll immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the landscape. Along the way, you'll hear captivating stories of past exploits along the Camino Real Tierra Adentro and may even catch a glimpse or hear the calls of the emblematic local birds, known as the chuínes. Additionally, you'll gain insights into the vital work of local communities in soil restoration, reforestation, and forest conservation. After approximately three hours of exploration, eventually, return to the assigned vehicle to transport you back to the city, concluding this enriching outdoor experience.

Day 9 | From Guanajuato to Guadalajara

Time to say goodbye to Guanajuato and head to the city of Guadalajara; your private transport will pick you up and the trip will take approximately 4 hours.

Guadalajara is the birthplace of mariachi and the representative drink of the country, tequila.

Day 10 | Charro Culture Immersion: A Journey through Jalisco's Traditions

Enjoy La Charrería, one of the most emblematic traditions of Jalisco and Mexico. Your shared transportation will pick you up along with a group of travelers to take you to Lienzo Charro Hotel, where you will meet your local guide. This approximately 4-hour experience will begin with a tour through the history of the Mexican charro and how this character represents the national identity and cultural heritage of the country. You will have the opportunity to practice with the reata, the main tool of every charro, and learn about the care and handling of cattle. You will also experience the thrill of horseback riding and using the lasso like a true charro. Lastly, you will enjoy the music of the mariachi while tasting tequila, a typical Mexican beverage, which will be shared with the charros as they exchange stories and anecdotes.

Day 11 | Tlaquepaque: the artisan’s route

Embark on a guided excursion to the enchanting town of Tlaquepaque, where a wealth of gastronomic, artistic, cultural and traditional treasures await exploration. Wander through its vibrant neighborhoods, uncovering the rich history, colonial architecture and captivating stories tucked away in its historic mansions. Immerse yourself in the artisanal world as you visit the town's most renowned workshops, where master artisans will guide you through the traditional techniques passed down through generations. Delight your senses at a Mexican candy factory, indulging in the aromas, textures and flavors of the region's signature sweets, including handmade rompope, chocolate, marzipan, cocada, cajeta, and more, while learning about the intricate process behind their creation.

Day 12 | Tequila and Guachimontones Tour

Accompanied by your knowledgeable local guide, embark on a fascinating journey to explore the enigmatic archaeological site of Guachimontones and the charming town of Tequila. Your adventure begins in Teuchitlán, home to the remarkable circular pyramids known as Guachimontones, hailed as a significant discovery in Mesoamerican archaeology. These unique structures, found nowhere else in the world, offer a glimpse into ancient civilizations. Next, you'll visit a tequila factory and learn about the intricate tequila-making process and marvel at the stunning views of the agave landscape and the towering Tequila Volcano, standing majestically at 2900 meters. Concluding your excursion, explore the vibrant streets of Tequila, a designated Magical Town, where you'll have free time to immerse yourself in the local culture and lifestyle centered around tequila, experiencing the essence of Mexican heritage firsthand.

Day 13 | ¡Hasta La Vista, traveler!

Time to say goodbye. Make the most of your morning before your transportation arrives to take you back to the airport.

Unica nota negativa: Holbox...

Siamo stati accolti all'aeroporto e assistiti nel ritiro dell'auto a noleggio.

Agenzia locale fantastica

Consigliamo vivamente Rutopia e in particolare Jorge! Leggi meno

A literally perfect trip to the Yucatan peninsula

Tom and I knew we wanted to go to Mexico. We knew we wanted a little bit of culture, some wildlife, and maybe a splash in the ocean. That's it. With the vague and minimal information we gave them, Rutopia was able to put together a perfect trip for us. We had a flawless itinerary. It's so clear that Rutopia really cares about the communities (animals and humans) in Mexico. Everything we did and everywhere we stayed felt like they were helping us experience Mexico as authentically and respectfully as possible. It's almost impossible to pick a highlight, but top of the list has to be the day we shared with Enrique, a Mayan host who was unbelievably generous with us. He shared the community gardens, including history and background about the families that live in Nuevo Durango and other nearby communities. He showed us the neighborhood cenotes, Punta Laguna, Uma Nojoch Keej (a wildlife reserve), and more. We picked and prepared the plants as Enrique and his wife Blanca showed us the best way to cook them (and rescued us when we were pricked by the nopales!). We saw howler monkeys and spider monkeys in the wild which was very cool. That had to be the very best day, but every day was amazing. Sian Ka'an reserve was lovely, the Mayan ruins were spectacular, the snorkeling in Puerto Morelos was fabulous, the bicycle cenote tour was jaw'droppingly gorgeous. I'm waxing superlative but it really all was like a dream. Beyond the activities, the scheduling and pace was perfect for us. We felt like we really made the most of our six days, but with enough downtime to explore and enjoy at our leisure. From picking up our car at the airport to finding our accommodation, the logistics were very smooth at every interaction. Special shoutout to Melina who pretty much instantly helped us when we had any questions about the trip. We've never used a travel planning service like this before. But after this trip, we'll never go back to the old way!

Grazie!

Two Weeks in Mexico

Seamless transfers, excellent hotels particularly in Mexico city and Puebla, combined with various cultural and food tours. Particular highlights were the cultural/food tours in Mexico city and Puebla (also including the anthropology museum in Mexico city), and the rural tours in Oaxaca where we visited textile workshops, mescal producers and participated in a cooking class using traditional equipment. Also, although we didn't need it, the on call remote assistance was reassuring. I would definitely recommend Rutopia.
