Rutopia, ganador del WSA “Cultura y Turismo” 2021

Rutopia was the winner of the WSA 2021 in the field of culture and tourism along with four other international innovative digital solutions with a positive impact.

We were born with the ambitious goal of regenerating the culture and nature of Mexico through sustainable trips for responsible, empathetic, and collaborative tourism.

Since 2017, we have generated a network of local providers that make us the most prominent ecotourism digital community in Mexico. In addition, we have created a digital ecotourism map. Still, we have also added to our proposal new destinations that seek to generate a positive impact on travel.

What is WSA?

WSA is a diverse and democratic award system that audits candidates worldwide and selects and rewards the best innovative digital solution with the highest positive impact.

This initiative has been in existence for more than 17 years and works with more than 182 countries. Its objective is to contribute to the improvement of society; in that sense, it is a recognized award that seeks to promote quality digital proposals.

On the other hand, WSA is also an international network that connects governmental, academic, and civil society leaders.  In addition, the platform allows to organize events, share tactics, consult information and find inspiration or allies so that initiatives find a unique echo.

Why is Rutopia WSA “Culture & Tourism” Winner 2021?

WSA selects digital solutions that truly support social and environmental challenges.

In that sense, Rutopia was the perfect WSA winner. Since its origins, our platform has strengthened the social fabric and developed forms of community organization.

Our goal is to offer tools to indigenous and rural communities with sustainable tourism projects that want to be part of the tourist map of Mexico, a country that, despite being full of ecosystems and landscapes from north to south, receives most travelers in just five destinations.

When a community receives an income from sustainable tourism, the traveler pays for the cultural heritage and the natural resources of the place. Hence, assigning an economic value to its ecosystems and traditions generates an incentive for conservation.
