Visit Yaxchilan y Bonampak; your first stop will be Frontera Corozal (an indigenous Chol village 3 hours from Palenque), where you will take a boat on the Usumacinta River, the longest in Central America, to the first Mayan city: Yaxchilan, place of the green stones. It is an incredible archaeological site in the middle of the jungle. Almost 2000 years ago Yaxchilan was just a small village, but it grew to become one of the most significant on the banks of the Usumacinta. You will visit the most emblematic buildings of this archaeological site and learn about the people who once lived there. You will return by boat to Frontera Corozal, where you will enjoy a delicious traditional meal. Afterwards, you will continue to the second archaeological site of the day: Bonampak, located in the Lacandon jungle, where you will see original 1100-year-old paintings, stelae and lintels that narrate the lifestyle and government of this pre-Hispanic city. Enjoy the Mayan cities of Yaxchilan and Bonampak!
